There are incredible art pieces all around the world, but of
course who does not know that. The real
question is what do you consider art. Is
art merely what you find in a frame or on a canvas, and what do you consider a
canvas?
Every answer will be opinionated. There is no way around it, art is in
everything including in your opinions about it.
One of arts free-expression forms is graffiti also known as street art,
although illegal almost everywhere things seem to be changing in what is
illegal about it plus it is quite appreciated.
Mentalfloss did a cool article on the world’s best cities for
graffiti/street art, there seems to be 11 cities that made that top rank. Within all these cities such as Mexico City,
Berlin, Łódż, and London graffiti/street art started a big movement. In Mexico City it was in the 1920s where
artist used graffiti/street art to convey social messages, eventually these
other cities over the years began to do the same or perhaps it was just finally
being excepted. Smashing magazine’s
tribute to graffiti/street art includes about 50 beautiful pieces all for the
viewing of those interested. It is
understandable why graffiti/street art was never taken at the value it should
have had from the beginning because it was considered provocative and used to
mark gang territory. Even then, it was
art. Why should it have had less meaning
because of how it was portrayed, art now a days can be even more provocative
then it was back then. It is true that
it still marks gang territory, but it should not make it any less valuable or
degrade the artist. Most graffiti/street artist were men, there is a legend
known as Lady pink who made herself known as one of the only woman who could
compete in this particular subculture back in the 1980s paving the way for
women to express themselves as artist in what people make out to be a dangerous
territory. Do you think this subculture
should flourish as what we call art or are your opinions (art) clouding you judgment?
